How Class Levels & Progression Work

At our studio, learning aerial arts is about connection, curiosity, and joy in movement. Our class levels are here to support you in building skills at a pace that feels both challenging and kind to your body.

Progression isn’t a race or a comparison — it’s a shared journey between you and your coach. We focus on helping you feel confident, supported, and excited about what you’re learning, while making sure you’re training safely and sustainably.

Wherever you are in your aerial journey, there’s a place for you here — and we’re here to help you grow, explore, and fly with joy. Below are common questions we get from our students about this.

 

How do I know which level to book?

Our class levels are based on skill readiness, confidence, and safety, not just how long you’ve been training.

If you’re new to aerials (or returning after a break), Introduction to Aerials is the best place to start. From there, progression is guided by your coach, based on what will support your learning and enjoyment the most.

If you’re unsure, please contact us — we’re happy to help you choose the right level.

 

Do I need a certain level of strength to start?

No. You do not need to be strong or “fit” to begin aerials.

Strength, grip, and endurance are things you build in class over time. Our beginner-level classes are designed to safely develop these skills from the ground up.

 

How long does it take to move up a level?

There is no fixed timeline.

Everyone progresses differently depending on:

  • training frequency

  • previous movement experience

  • rest and recovery

  • how your body adapts

Some students move through levels more quickly, while others benefit from spending longer consolidating skills. Both are completely valid.

 

Why can’t I move up just because I’ve been training for a while?

Progression isn’t about time served — it’s about being ready for the demands of the next level.

Higher-level classes involve:

  • more time in the air

  • more complex skills and sequences

  • greater physical and mental load

  • increased responsibility for safety

Being in the right level helps you progress more confidently and reduces injury risk.

 

Will my coach tell me when I’m ready to move up?

Yes.

Your coach is actively observing:

  • technique and control

  • consistency and confidence

  • safety awareness

  • readiness for increased complexity

If you’re curious about progression, we encourage you to ask your coach directly. These conversations are a normal and welcome part of training.

 

Can I train in more than one level or apparatus?

Sometimes, yes.

It’s common for students to be at different levels on different apparatus. Placement is based on skill readiness for each apparatus rather than a single overall level.

Your coach can guide you on what combination will best support your progression.

 

What if I feel nervous about moving up?

That’s completely normal.

Feeling challenged, excited, and slightly uncomfortable often comes with growth. Your coach will support you through transitions between levels and help ensure you feel safe and capable as expectations increase.
